It seemed impossible to continue creating while in isolation, but after a few weeks in quarantine, I knew that I’d go crazy if I didn’t try! This styled bridal shoot was photographed at The Modern Bride’s beautiful loft studio in Guelph, Ontario. Keep reading for my design inspiration and how the heck we managed to pull-off a 100% restriction-compliant shoot in the era of COVID-19!

In the initial planning stages, I started off with a colour palette of mahogany purple, grey lavender, and soft pinks, and at the onset, my plan was just to photograph a few bridal details on their own. My sister was the very first person that I ever photographed and she patiently endured many test photoshoots in front of my lens over the years. Thankfully, I’ve come a long way since then and when I told her about my plans for the shoot, she excitedly offered to model for me. This shoot was such a special opportunity to create again with the person who, in so many ways, helped me get my start in wedding photography.

Jordana from White Oak Flower Co. created an unstructured bridal bouquet brimming with hellebores, tulips, and other locally grown varieties, Paula Lee Calligraphy’s letterpress stationery suite couldn’t have complimented the earthy mauve floral tones any better, Pastry by Nikki made a flawless bright white two-tiered cake dressed with an assortment of hellebores, and The Modern Bride not only provided the breathtaking bridal gown by Alena Leena Bridal but also lent us their studio space for the shoot.

It was no easy task to organize and produce a bridal shoot in the height of a pandemic; we couldn't work with hair or makeup artists, all pickups were contactless, we couldn't have any assistants on location, and many of the usual vendors who would contribute to a shoot like this were unable to do so. All the same, it was absolutely worthwhile. We were able to create wedding inspiration that is elegant and romantic with a touch of "fairy tale" that will hopefully encourage many brides to stay inspired and excited about their own weddings to come.
